China Global Television Network (CGTN) has entered into a strategic partnership with the high-level independent Charhar Institute think-tank. Both parties say the collaboration will meet the new demands of a new era, from a shifting media landscape to the growing global craving for real, full-bodied China stories.

Wang Guoqing, chairperson of the International Communication Committee of the Charhar Institute said at the signing ceremony that, "We understand the ins-and-outs of the Chinese view, and CGTN has been the best in telling Chinese stories in a global context. But the partnership will not only be a benefit for both of us. The world craves real, dynamic explanations of China, and together we can provide what they need."

The cooperation also comes at a time when the media landscape is changing.

Jiang Heping, CGTN's controller, said that "CGTN has been a ground-breaker since the minute it launched. It's innovative and inclusive, and constantly adapting to the demands of this new era. Now we've found our users demand content that caters to their different, individual needs. And that appetite is huge. As we work to tell Chinese stories in the best way possible, we're partnering with the think tank. We will take their ideas further, and turn them into the voices and stories designed for our users."

Zhang Guobin, secretary-general of the Charhar Institute also told CGTN that, "In my time abroad, I found that it's the 'down-to-earth' stories and conversational interpretations of China's unique terms and situations that really come across. Charhar is good with ideas, while CGTN is good at storytelling. It's a merging of powers."

The Charhar Institute is the first think tank to officially bond with CGTN, which launched only a year ago. But more of this kind of cooperation is expected in the future.

Fast expanding in influence, CGTN's TV programs are now available in more than 170 countries and regions across the globe, and  the audience for its digital outreach also numbers in the hundreds of millions.
