Distinguished guests and colleagues, It is my pleasure to be here and I’d like to begin by congratulating professor Li for taking the lead in organizing this excellent symposium.

I think now we have reached the tri-party status that we are always seeking which is China, Myanmar and the rest of the world. I think this is the three-way dialogue, if I can put in that way, which is really the essence of the symposium and it works most of it out from all of the other Myanmar talk that is going on in the world these days. I am very much looking forward to hearing all the presentations going to be delivered in the next couple of days and I should say looking forward it will be possible for us to move inside Myanmar itself. We have done research around the borders of Myanmar and we have spent a lot of time in Hong Kong. But with Myanmar changing so rapidly, with universities’ opening up and forming institutions throughout the world, and I think it is time for academic symposium to look inside Myanmar. And hopefully it would not put much pressure to Daw Chaw Chaw Sein and to Yangon University where next symposium possibly move to. Once again I would like to say I am very glad to be here and I am grateful for Chenyang for putting together such an excellent program me. I am looking forward to deliberation with all of you in the next days.

Thank you very much!
