Recent deterioration in China-US relations has prompted leading Chinese non-governmental think tank The Charhar Institute, headed by Dr Han Fangming, vice chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, to establish a National Committee for China-US Relations intended as a channel for conflict resolution.

The new committee, founded today in a small opening ceremony in Beijing, will bid to build private channels for discussion and contributions to resolution of China-US disputes with US think tanks and between Chinese and US decision-makers.

Dr Bruno Wu, a leading media entrepreneur and investor, has been appointed the committee’s vice chairman. Committee members include Ambassador Zhou Wengzhong, three former Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials in the rank of vice minister as well as leading Chinese and US scholars and researchers.

The position of chairman is expected to be filled by a former high-ranking government leader.
